So the majority of the school summer holiday when this is on sees Sussex host 3 one day cup games on Sundays and 1 fixture on a Wednesday. Effectively a single day of cricket at the county ground that youngsters can attend as a result of being on their summer holidays, until a country championship game starts on the 29th Aug.

Very little in life that bothers me, especially as I've got older. But seeing the game I've adored since I first played it as a kid torn apart by this utter monstrosity really f***ing upsets me.
Why not have The Three, where there are only six balls in the match ? Mind, even that might be too long for the attention spans of the target audience.

This. Ride down on my bike, with some sandwiches, biscuits and squash, and a bat and a couple of tennis balls. Meet a gang of mates. Grab a couple of autographs. Watch a bit of cricket, sometimes watch the opposition star having a net. Eat all the food by about 12, and spend the lunch interval having a game of our own on the outfield.

To add a contradictory point to the general sense of loathing here (which I can appreciate), I have taken my two boys (now 12 and 10) to Southern Brave games over the past couple of seasons, and they've loved it. The youngest is now an absolute cricket addict in all forms of the game. So if the Hundred was meant to act as a pathway drug for kids, it's certainly worked in one case at least! I've also since taken them to test matches and T20's at Sussex, but the experience of being able to watch back to back games and general razzmatazz of The Hundred is a winner for kids (and for the women's game!).
I understand and respect the view that not having county championship games in August isn't like the old days, but for the target audience the ECB are looking to grab, I think it works. For me though, I still haven't worked out the five ball "sets" and when you can and can't bowl back to back "sets". Think that's a bit weird!

Further context. I am falling out of love with cricket. Unless Somerset are playing I find I don’t really care anymore. I loved the blast and the bbl and IPL when they started but now there are so many franchise tournaments I have given up on all of them. I just don’t care. Let’s be honest the players don’t care if their side wins either. They play a few games in one tournament and then abandon the team to fly to the other side of the world for a few games then somewhere else for some more. If they don’t care about teams why should we? It has basically become an exhibition sport.
Sadly it is affecting my love of tests as well. No anticipation builds before a series with some games vs local sides. We fly in. Lose. Fly away to franchises.

Not sure of the exact details but the ECB don't make money on the blast so set The Hundred up to try to cash in. Basically the ECB have mucked up English county cricket chasing quick cash.

Drop the hundred. Start the blast early July. Finish it in four weeks. Make it louder.
Gives more kids the opportunity to attend some razzmatazz cricket at the start of the summer.
And have tests running at the same time.
