Hope they manage to ride this one out. We don't want another Bury on our hands...

Barcelona have been fined only 300 euros (£265) by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for their approach to Antoine Griezmann while he was at La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Spanish champions Barcelona signed Griezmann after paying his 120m-euro (£107m) buyout clause on 1 July.

But the federation said Barca broke its rules by negotiating with Griezmann without Atletico's permission.

Atletico believed his buyout clause should have been 200m euros (£179m).

They claimed that Barca began talking to the player in March, when that was the size of his buyout clause.

His cost then dropped to 120m euros at the start of July, which was when he signed for Barca, but Atletico claimed the "commitment of the player and Barcelona was closed" prior to the clause reducing.

Now, if only UEFA developed a backbone and started handing out similarly harsh punishments...

How on Earth can they be expected to cope under the weight of such a fine?

If they fine them millions doesnt that just help them with FFP? I agree joke though but then Barca and Real own the league.

Both Barca and Atletico are now appealing the decision.

Atleti don't think it's a significant enough punishment, Barca don't like the fact that it implies wrongdoing on their part.

Mockery. Tells you all you need to know about the status and power of them and Real Madrid. Let’s hope Atletico win the division.

I really don't understand how Barcelona can argue, with a straight face, that they DIDN'T contact Griezmann ahead of July 1st. It's obvious to the whole world that they did, the deal was obviously done well in advance of that date and they waited to avoid paying the extortionate fee for a player who, with respect, is no Gary Hart.

Totally agree.

Farcical situation on Barca's part.

Between the mass shootings in the US, Zaha and this, i'm not going to have any thoughts and prayers left...

I've just ordered a multipack of thoughts and prayers. Should be arriving by tomorrow morning. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime.
