No doubt the parents would prefer to save the expensive TV rather than their children.

What type of parent on hearing a smoke alarm wouldn't look to assist their children as their first action, or does the fire safety plan just say you're on your own.

This. So if the fire alarm goes off, as a parent your natural reaction is to run into one of the few adjacent bedrooms where your kids sleep and make sure they get out. Ridiculous.

Also should have a warning that hearing impaired (not allowed to call them deaf) cannot hear the alarm, nor can anyone in the next street or that's in an alcoholic stupor. How far do they go?

I've got a whole house system - both my neighbours have the same. I wake them up & they wake me up with theirs - so I'm covered (phew)

The last time Watchdog claimed something was a 'potential death trap' it was pop tarts from memory. How times have changed.

Really? Not allowed to call them deaf? Where did you read that?
There are varying degrees of hearing loss from profoundly deaf to hard of hearing.

My husband is hard of hearing, due to genetics but has a council provided vibrating pad in his pillow to wake him up.
