Not entirely true...

Most decent banks would take confirmation of a number of failed PIN attempts as viable proof you weren’t in possession of the card at the time of the transactions and therefore refund.

Also the contactless accrual amounts[amount before a PIN confirmation is required to confirm ownership] are being reduced from c£200 to c£120 as banks were being stung for higher refund amounts as thieves went on a scratch card/pre-pay card buying sprees.

I was talking with regards to contactless purchase not PIN and card ones. Purchases made before the card is reported as lost are not refundable - not only that but as many retailers accept contactless payments “offline” a lost card can be used numerous times and banks have acknowledged that even after a card has been cancelled by them it can still be used for purchases “offline”.

It's not the card provider that's important …. it's the communications provider. And, unsurprisingly, the club have just moved to a provider that employees Kerry Mayo and the son of Dean Wilkins !

If the worst happened then card payments can still be accepted “offline” - this simply means that a check for available funds is not made at the point of sale.

I doubt it very much.

The cost of banking cash is less than the merchant service charges.

You can get merchant services from 1% per transaction. Much the same as the cost of paying in cash but without the hassle.

That's not the case - banks will usually refund fraudulent transactions even if this was before you reported the loss.

I try to pay by card if possible, the delay is seldom in the payment part, it’s almost always attributed to people not having a scooby in how to pour drinks and serve food.
For example, I’ve been second in the queue for the (already card only) Harveys stand in the north concourse and still waited while the hapless guy tried to pour a pint....it’s like he is trying to disarm a bomb or summat

Yep, exactly. The club need to address the staffing if they really want to improve service times. Getting staff who aren’t always brand new and who have some prior experience of a pressurised bar environment is, imo, going to make a far more significant difference to service times than the introduction of cashless kiosks, especially as the “majority” of punters are already cashless.

Getting staff who aren’t always brand new and who have some prior experience of a pressurised bar environment is, imo, going to make a far more significant difference to service times than the introduction of cashless kiosks, especially as the “majority” of punters are already cashless.

The trouble is, you're just never going to get experienced bar staff who are only needed for a few hours once a fortnight. Its always basically going to be kids/students earning a bit of pocket money for themselves. The nature of the work means it'll always be a high turnover, so loads of "training on the job".

Its been like it from day 1 at the Amex, can't see it ever significantly improving tbh.

Not sure most people are paying by card, still see loads paying in cash. There are multiple of issues.........

-slow/untrained staff (do they actually work for the club or Sodexo ?)
-lack of pints ready-poured
-people paying by cash and server having no clue how to deal with change
-people paying by card but using their pin instead of contactless
-people arriving at the till without knowing what they want
-people arriving at the till without the means to pay ready
etc

It'll never be any different, but the more that use contactless the better it'll be IMO
