Getting rid of all these players without proven replacements is something that should provoke legitimate concern. Why take this gamble? Move Andone out when we have another quick forward on the books, not half a season before we’ll have that chance again

I'm nearly 48 but am looking to run one or two marathons a year to stay fit. I was getting knee problems on 20 minute runs a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to be able to be able to afford private Sports Injury advice to sort it out. The issue was actually in my hips, which was having a knock on effect on my ITB and therefore my knee. Additionally, I had a problem in my abductor which was presenting as a groin injury.

I was treated by the specialist and then given some stretches to sort out these problems. I was also told to stop running for a week but to "cross train", which means other sports and exercises.

We went away to a sports hotel at about this time and I didn't do any long distance running but I did go to the gym and play football and cricket with my son. In the second game of football I strained my left groin and, after a tackle was painful, stoppped playing. I carried on with the stretches and gym work.

I've been for a run this evening and there wasn't event a twinge from my dodgy groin. I had a few "old man" pains but that was it. We got home on the Saturday afternoon of the Man City game.

In other words, my "groin injury" was fixed in less than a week because I identified it and sorted it straight away. I have other aches and pains but I'm a non professional athlete in my late 40s who likes a beer, a burger and a cheeky fag.

If I can recover from a "groin injury" in less than a week by pulling out of a match as soon as I felt it then a pro footballer with supreme fitness should be able to do the same or better. If it's a serious problem then it is an injury where you are out for a large number of weeks. But if it's a twinge and you quit the session quickly enough, you can be running again within a week and playing again soon after.

My hope with Trossard is that this is precautionary. If so he'll be back for Newcastle. If, however, he's carried on through the "rip" then we can kiss goodbye to him for a couple of months.
