Southgate on Mings:

"Wow. Someones paid £27m for him, so he MUST be good"

Unfortunately for him, Dunk won't get any more England caps while he stays at Brighton. Thats just the way it works. If he'd signed for Leicester for £40-odd million, then he would be in this squad.

MINGS!!

That’s super harsh on Lewis.

I can think of a dozen CB's more deserving of a call up. Guess it helps to play for the brumscum.
Feel sorry for Lewis, but from an Albion tinted viewpoint it does help keep him out of the shop window.

The Squad

TAA = No brainer
Barkley = I’d have him in
Chilwell = Is he fit?
Gomez = Not playing enough
Heaton = Don’t disagree but the keeping cupboard is a little bare
Henderson = No objections
Kane = Quality CF
Keane = Out of form
Lingard = Not first choice at Man U
Madison = Had to be in
Maguire = Had to be in
Mings = How has he done enough?
Mount = Worth a look
Oxlade = needs fitness and form to be considered
Pickford = No 1, so fine
Pope = Lack of alternatives
Rashford = quality
Rice = There on promise more than achievement, no objection to having another look at him
Rose = Passable full back
Sancho = quality
Sterling = serious quality
Trippier = no form. He should have to regain this first
Wan Bissaka= He went for a lot of money so must be picked?
Wilson = Worth a look at him in training
Winks = Is he fit?

I'm unimpressed

Dunk being snubbed when he's already been turning heads this season? What gives Southgate? What gives? :rant:

But seriously though, he just keeps his head down and continues to show off how good he is this season, he'll get his big break or otherwise England would be forever asking. For now, he can stick with us and grab us some wins.

England
Mings can play left back and centre back.
The only other left back in the squad is Rose.
He can carry the ball out of defence due to his left back qualities.

His call up is completely logical.

As people have said, even though I'd have liked to see Dunk get another chance, on a selfish note I'm not too fussed about his omission. Better for us, and he'll play with a point to prove.

In fairness he was at best 6th or 7th centre back for England and only got in due to injuries. Plus he made abad mistake v USA. There were others close behind even then, Lascelles and now Coady. Mings is lucky, he was known for being a thug until a few decent Championship games.

I don't think Dunk will get another cap, his form went last season at a bad time for his international hopes and though he'll be back, that may be it for England.

That won’t be the team. There’s at least one too many attacking midfielders. Henderson for Mount and in all likelihood Lingard for Madison all of a sudden makes the team look a bit less appetising.

A potential line up of:

Pickford

TAA
Gomez
Maguire
Rose

Rice
Maddison
Mount

Sterling
Kane
Sancho

To me, that's exciting.

Dunk is nowhere near the squad.

Stones (injured)
Tarkowski
Dunk
Coady/lascelles just behind

He’d be better off trying out as a holding midfielder.

Heatons call up is laughable. An absolute howler v Bournemouth. Henderson and Ramsdale are better options. Heaton is 33.5 years old?!

Oh and Adam johnson has more premier league asssits since 2013 than lingard. 6 versus 5.

Wow, I didn’t know this.
Given how attacking they became under OGS that’s really damning. Unless he was injured? :)
