Test cricket lasts for five days. If you bat first, you need to aim to bat for two days. You tire their bowlers out, and when you've done that, all of a sudden, it becomes easier to score runs. It's far less a test of technique as a test of temperament. You need to be disciplined and leave balls. You leave a ball that's outside your off stump and then the bowler's got to bowl another one. Continue, and they'll get tired. You play at a ball outside the off stump, and you might get a four, but you might also edge the ball to the slip cordon waiting to snaffle it up.

Yes my question was how they differ. I didn't realise the balls were actually different, that can account for a big difference straight away

Warner faced at least 90 balls before he started scoring shots, can't we learn from watching how the opposition deal with the conditions.
Totally unacceptable, batting like novices and not professionals.
Give me 11 Boycotts any day, painful to watch but effective.

Only chance we hve is to skittle them this morning quickly, chasing 300/320 over nearly 3 days especially on a day 3/4 pitch should be possible, but highly improbable with the terrible batting on show so far from England this series.

Could be over within 3 days, again. What has happened to test cricket?

I've been looking at the match in 1888: it lasted a day and a half - an astonishing 27 wickets fell in the three hours on the second day - a wicket every seven minutes. England would have to go some to beat that

Post Mortem of English cricket well under way on TMS this morning.... Aggers wants to scrap one of the One day tournaments completely, one division for County Championship AND getting rid of some of the First Class counties... Lookout those without a Test Match ground!

Should be more like the legendary 500 to 1 from the 1981 game. I'd say we have no chance. Aggers really went off on one on TMS, Basically calling for a complete restructuring of the County game. That might be all good in the longer terms - but where do we goes for the next two Tests?

Streamlining the CC would make sense. Some of the guff that’s playing regular cricket is laughable. Concentrate on a core set of competitive players. Players need to be tested every day in every match, and passengers need to be sent to club cricket. Far, far too many average players. The two division thing hasn’t really worked- if anything it’s just created a bit of a gulf between certain teams and the rest.

Underlines my point about keepers- and I'll keep banging on about it.

Foakes would have caught that.

Why have a keeper who averages 10 more than another when he puts down chances that end up costing a lot more ? It's a false economy.

Really winds me up the selection panels just don't get it.
