Although he wasn't the scorer. I've only seen a few minutes, but it looks like he's playing on the right like I think he did at the weekend when he came on and scored. Does he need to play in the group stage to accrue more points? If so, this match could be crucial to him appearing at the Amex next season.

Yes he needs 5 points from the subjective criteria, playing in the Champions League group stage counts as 1 point towards this.
I believe he also gets 1 point for playing in the qualifying round.
