For those of a certain age, you'll remember Jack Hargreaves from classics such as How? and Out of Town.

His house - including the famous shed - in Dorset is yours for just £850k. https://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/17807123.home-belonging-former-itv-legend-goes-sale-850-000/

Theme tune -

And if you have 20 minutes to spare, this is a total delight of slow-TV - https://vimeo.com/13378350 - clocks, pipes, onions and an old Southern commercial break.

That brought back some memories. I didn't realise he was still going in 1980.

Now I don't doubt that the property has a shed, but the shed in Out of Town was as sure as eggs are eggs, in a recording studio.

Theme tune -

That had the old spin tingling, they did use two theme tunes however. I can't find the original for this, only a Max Bygraves one but the lyrics were;

Say what you will,
The countryside is still
The only place where I could settle down
Troubles there are so much rarer
Out of town

Spring starts to spring
The cuckoo starts to sing
A song to take the edge off winter's frown
And spring cleaning has a meaning
Out of town

Up there the sun is a big yellow duster
Polishing the blue, blue sky
With white fluffy clouds in a cluster
Hanging on a breeze to dry

Trees everywhere
With blossoms in their hair
And Mother Nature wears her newest gown
What I'd give once more to live
Right out of town.

Ah........ nostalgia rules..

Out of Town was regular teatime viewing in our house

Here too - or at least when I was a kid in Worthing in the 1960s. I've been singing bits of the theme tune to myself all morning and trying to remember the words, which someone has now helpfully posted above!

This may take you back ever further. The old Southern TV titles that used to come on when afternoon programmes started around 4pm. Richard Adinsell's rather gorgeous Southern Rhapsody...

Wonderful memories of sitting and watching this with my father from a very early age. It’s made me rather melancholy as my dear old dad passed away just over a week ago.
A wonderful wonderful programme....
