spent my summer childhood on the West Beach at Newhaven

brilliant times, espcially when the ferry came in and with the wash destroyed all the dams built up against the breakwater

remember Weymouth being a nice beach back in the 80's

Kyance cove on the Lizzard peninsular. Ok not a day trip from Brighton but well worth a visit if you are in Cornwall. Get there early as in the summer is gets very very busy

Greatstone beach was my favourite when I lived in Kent, small sand dunes and huge sandy beach, like a smaller scale Camber but minus the busyness. Plus Dungeness and Romney Marsh close by.

The thread says south so Portcurno wins by a country mile.
With The Minack Theatre on the cliff above it, it is an amazing beach.

Agreed. Walked round there last Tuesday. Even spotted the adjacent nudist beach (though I didn't believe my mate until I got the photos developed...)

And get there at the right tide too, or it'll be just a small stony beach.

The sandy beaches between Greatstone & Dymchurch are indeed magnificent.

The best seaside resort in this country by a long way, I love St Ives, even when its packed out as it is now, but if you are lucky with the weather in Spring or early autumn then it is fabulous, if only you could be guaranteed decent weather for a week, as with most places, chuffing awful in the rain.
It has everything you would want within a radius of 20 miles.
