Rumour has it (not sure how true) was that whoever he left the pub to was to maintain his stance of being anti football. Fast forward a few years and the pub is accommodating to football fans, has sky/BT and refurbished their barn to allow more people to visit the pub on match days.

Not sure about that. The original guy (John) had long softened his stance on the Albion. My wife and I go there a lot on Friday evenings in the summer and during construction he admitted it was exciting to see it develop.

The players are not investing much locally: they save a lot because their careers are short, they pay a lot of tax, the rent on their accommodation is not huge and they send a lot of money back home to wherever abroad they come from.
At the same time, fans' increasing their spending on tickets and merchandise means they have to reduce their spending on other things locally.

Not all Brighton fans live locally.
Ignoring the money paid to the club for tickets, or anything at the ground, my family spend in Sussex, per match day weekend is comfortably into three figures - all money that would have been spent in Winchester or the like.

They pay a lot of tax which includes council tax.
Employees spend money on food, clothes, local restaurants, etc Away fans often come for a weekend rather than just for the match.
