1. He has already turned down a move to WBA, preferring to sit out the one year of his contract at Saints.

Call it subjective if you like. The view of him I quoted isn’t formed from a few tv interviews, but from someone who has had regular work and work-social meetings with the knob.

A few years too late for me. It seems that most people accept he's a difficult character, and injured too frequently, but are balancing that with the "proven goalscorer" bit. But I think that view is a bit out of date, or maybe skewed by goals in The Championship. I don't have his goalscoring record to hand, but I think you have to go back a few years to find a prolific season in the Premier League. Maybe there was there a decent season with QPR in the Premier League in there somewhere, but other than that you're actually going back to his Burnley days. He's never hit 10 League goals for Southampton, and that hardly outweighs the negatives.
