I see there is an article with a link from the club website, recommending us to sign Danny Webeck. What's the general concensus of opinion on here? should we?

Available on a free transfer following his release by Arsenal.

Would be a massively expensive crock who'd probably think he was doing us a favour lowering himself to our level. Its a no from me, Simon.

This smells of "West Ham" to me.

If he was on a "pay as you play" type deal and the wages weren't extortionate...it'd still be a no

We should certainly find out what he's looking for.

At the right wage, we should go for it, as he would be a definite step forward.

Wages and fitness. If he could stay fit I would take him all day long, anyone suggesting otherwise is a little deluded that we can either do better or he isnt good enough.

Right deal yes. Will we get the right deal? No

A fit Danny Welbeck is better than any of our strikers but he'll not be fit and he'll want too much money. Only way this happens is late in the window when he might take less money and even then...

Well the two things that he does have going for him, which can't be said of other Albion signings since the last ice age, (it seems that long anyway), is that there is no transfer fee to pay, (although admittedly wages may prove anothjer matter), and the not insignificant fact that the man actually has vast Premier League experience.

West Ham need a new perma-crock since they release Andy Carroll, so expect he'll end up there.

Of course we should. (If fit etc etc) Some people are so quick to dismiss any well known player on here for some strange reason.

The thing with him being on a FREE, means that we may factor that into his wage demands.

Sign a player for £15m, and pay him £50k a week for 4 years = £25.4m.
If Welbeck is available on a FREE, and wants £100k a week, for 4 years = £20.8m.

That would make him cheaper overall than a number of our recent signings.

It's very difficult to find the sweet spot, where a player we've all heard of is good enough that no-one slates them, and yet they are not so good that people immediately dismiss the idea with "Wages". In fact there probably isn't a middle ground, as "Wages" often kicks in to people's answers even when they are not deemed good enough. Not sure where that leaves.

As most have already said this is all about wages and fitness. Do not need an expensive sick note!

His stats for Arsenal:

2014-15: P25 G4
2015-16: P11 G4
2016-17: P16 G2
2017-18: P28 G5
2018-19: P8 G1

Overall P88 G16

If we think he'll do any better than that at BHA, then I think we'd probably end up disappointed.
