Personally, I'd presume it is utter bs.
The initial link came from one of a group of 20 or so Albion fans, in Bratislava / Vienna for the stag do of an Albion fan known to lots of us.
My assumption would be that they sat enjoying a beer, and decided to create a rumour for the LOLZ, did a quick google of the Rapid squad for a plausible target, invented the story of a 'chance meeting with a well informed local fan'. Maybe €5 each in a sweep on how many minutes before the thread appeared on NSC.
