It's probably my favorite Led Zep song and it set the tone for Houses of the Holy. (their most under rated album IMHO) I also read somewhere that it was the only Led Zep track where a female vocalist was used. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My god, there's some awful screechers listed on here! Especially some of the more recent names - and trouble is, women doing karaoki (sp?) all seem to think they can do the same, and that it sounds good. It doesn't.

Maybe not the best technically, but the sound of Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson together in the B52s is my personal favourite
Sandy Denny - Is she really so iconic ? A client of min told me he was writing a book about her a few years ago and it just went over my head as I hadn't really heard of her. He gave me a copy of the book and it has sat on a shelf at home for about 4 years. Is it worth reading?
Have a listen to her first. Her earlier stuff was better before the booze and fags started to take a toll.

Quite right - there are plenty of singers who are much better than their purely technical singing ability. Kate Pierson is a decent call on that.

I had the unhealable shivers when seeing Low live many years back and hearing the show open with Mimi Parker doing her thang. A pint almost came out of my hand at the bar and i felt creases develop on the wizened husk my innards briefly called a soul.
I just listened to the track you posted and then compared it with Cara Dillon's version. Both good vocals. Very different versions - Hard to call

Apparently she was as tough as the men in the bands she played in and imo has a voice that is sadly missed. These two tracks should give you an idea of whether you’ll like her or not. I imagine the book is worth a read because she certainly is an icon for music lovers of the sixties/seventies

Never heard of Cara Dillon before. Sweet little voice, very nice; nowhere near the crystal clarity of Denny's vocals, though, or her range. She had a wide repertoire - as well as being an excellent pianist, acoustic guitarist and song-writer.

I think there is little doubt that Karen Carpenter had the greatest ever female vocal. Truly from the heavens. Sarah McLachlan runs her a close second though
Another forgotten band from that era (maybe a bit later).Renaissance with Annie Haslam. Once saw them at the Dome (1972) as a support act.
