I simply couldn't comprehend Brighton had signed Vicente , i thought it was a joke , and a poor one at that , when you looked at this players lifetime stats and thought of all the great players he had played against and with , it just didn't add up , we had him at about 60% of his best , but wow , what a 60% .

As a teenage commie, Gotsmonov was my only football hero outside of Brighton. When we signed him I was living in Forest Gate and was sent a postcard with Sergie resplendent in a Brighton shirt before the North Stand. I thought it was the most sophisticated hoax in history and for my own personal benefit. He did not dissapoint.
