The final scene from Cuckoos nest when Chief says “ I’m taking you with me MAC”

Beautiful and upsetting at the same time.
    now my friends have gone,
    and my hair is grey,
and I ache in the places that I used to play.

I’ve also always liked the end of Jaws.

Brody and Hooper kicking towards shore.

Brody: You know, I used to hate the water?

      Hooper: I can’t imagine why!

Just a perfect low key ending for a thrilling film.

I took a girl to see Carrie when it first came out
I was very keen on this young lady, she was a real corker, I was punching way above my weight. Anyway, I’d already seen the film when I took her, and, for the life of me, I still don’t know why I did it, but, at the grave scene at the end, I grabbed my perfect dates wrist at exactly the same time as it happened on the screen.
Pandemonium!! She screamed, and I mean really screamed and wouldn’t stop, I was trying to apologise, the couple behind us were in hysterics, and, just about everyone else in the cinema was telling me what dickhead I was. Even the manager had a go at me, and banned me for six months.

I had to phone the girls mum to come and get her, and I had to explain what had happened. The poor girl never, ever spoke to me again, not one word, and whenever I saw her out in town, she would look at me with such contempt I would just blush and go and hide.
Sounds like you weren't confident of that getting off the ground, so getting your retaliation in first in that way was spot on. If I'd have been there I'd have been turned from a nearly shat myself to a near certain pissed myself.

Back on topic, forget the poofy films. I nominate Quadrophenia.

The Matrix - Neo is obviously beginning to believe and just needs to get to the phone and then pow pow he is shot dead, only for a kiss from Trinity to awaken him before jumping into an agent and destroying him from the inside out. Then runs to the phone. Followed up with a warning to the Matrix that he is gonna show the world the truth.... I'm a big fan of the film

Another for Italian Job, it’s got to be really as endings go. Literally a cliff hanger. But others worthy of a mention include:
Planet of the Apes for its twist.
Brilliant shout for Jaws earlier and quite agree with the posters comments - low key, less is more to great effect.
Zulus roll call is stirring I wannabee Welsh stuff.
Life of Brian for feel good sing along silliness
Empire Strikes Back for its god damnit, I can’t wait for the next instalment
Lastly, LoTR must get a mention for the sheer number of missed opportunities to end. And I’m a fan!
“Everything about this looks wrong. The run-up is too long, too straight, and you know it’s going over the bar ... it goes over the bar, and Brighton have stolen a trip to Wembley! That is an absolute burglary! And that is the FA Cup!”

The ending in all the Godfather films were probably my favourite just because I couldn't wait for the films to finish.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

      Time to die.
      This in spades.
