Israel responsible for oil tanker attacks: ex-diplomat

https://www.tehrantimes.com/news/436999/Israel-responsible-for-oil-tanker-attacks-ex-diplomat

On Thursday morning, two commercial oil tankers were hit in the Gulf of Oman, prompting the evacuation and rescue of dozens of crew members.

The United States has blamed Iran for the attacks.

In an interview with Iran Online, Asefi said Israel benefits the most from such accusations against Iran, hence “logically the Zionist regime is the agent of this incident.”

“I think the directing of such incidents in the region are done by the Zionist regime and this has no hidden dimensions,” he stated.

Asefi, who served as Iran’s ambassador to France and Foreign Ministry spokesman, argued that Israel intends to draw the Islamic Republic into a tense and anti-diplomatic atmosphere to justify its stance against Iran.

Pointing to Japanese Prime Minister Shizo Abe’s visit to Tehran, he said the oil tankers attacks were aimed at impacting the trip.

“I was surprised when the Foreign Ministry said the attack was suspicious, because there’s nothing suspicious about it and it’s clear,” he stated.

Soon after the attacks, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared in the State Department Briefing Room to significantly raise the stakes.

“It is the assessment of the United States government that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the attacks that occurred in the Gulf of Oman today,” Pompeo said.

He cited intelligence, weapons used, the required expertise and sophistication of the assault and previous attacks to conclude it was the latest assault by Iran on “freedom-loving nations.”

Asefi rejected Pompeo’s rash decision to accuse Iran, arguing that it is not rational to think Iran would benefit from such acts while hosting the Japanese premier.

Antisemitism. Israel would never act like that.

Well if we want better services and in general a nicer country to live in , none of us that can will mind paying a couple more pence in the pound tax. Look at the Scandinavian model.

Yeah 2p/3p is fine with me but some might kick up about it but with all the promises being made by Corbyn and his cohorts it will be nearer 20p and even then it will still be short

And that would still be cheaper than the pledges made by a Boris.

Pray tell how all this will be paid for ??

Aren't we the 5 biggest economy in the world ? yet we have Third World standards of health, education and infrastructure ? The Money is somewhere, instead of quantative easing and giving that money to the bankers that ruined the country, we spent that cash on better services and infrastructure? just a thought.

You ******s earning over £100,000 a year should pay some tax though. You can’t just raise tax regressively from the unfortunate Brexiteers on low wages or benefits.

I agree, the banks got off lightly after the crash and all the help they had. Then they all have this great idea to shut all the branches down

Think you'll find I'm lower end but would still reverse a couple of tax cuts to help the NHS and Police. Say what you mean though eh !!!

how come people always rave about the NHS, unless making a political point then its shit? probably need to see some real third world to make such comparison. also need to understand QE isnt free cash, it buy back of bonds. if you spent the same cashdirect into the economy inflation would go through the roof in a couple of years.

if we want more public service, we all need to pay more taxes, simple message that isnt wildly popular as some would like. Corbyn and McDonnell are beyond just increasing taxes 5p, they are unashamed hard line socialist that believe in the state ownership and control of production and property. that seems like a good idea, but we've seen every time its tried it goes very, very wrong for everyone.

I'll tell you what, Veg, there are millions of people in this country who are scared of a Corbyn extreme Left Government, equipped with a would be Chancellor who states that he wants to see the downfall of Capitalism and a brainbox like Diane Abbott as Home Secretary, you've got to be some kind of weirdo, not to be scared!
It isn't only Tory voters who think he is unfit to ever be PM, it is also the vast majority of moderate Labour voters, who cannot support such a man and his dangerous cohorts. Thankfully this is why, he will never become PM.
Thank F--k for that and I haven't even started on why he would pose a great threat to the security of our country.

Where do you get the idea that Corbyn is extreme left?

I haven't been to many countries in the Third World, but I have been to Gambia and Senegal, and have been on a coach tour of the wealthiest and safest parts of the capital cities. And if you genuinely think that you would take your wife and children to Gambia or Senegal if they needed healthcare, or you wanted to improve their schooling, or they had better buildings and transport systems; then you would be a fool. No offence.

Might I suggest you visit these countries before making the move? Take a look at the people. The skeletally thin look may appear healthy to some, but in reality it isn't. Especially when it's caused by lack of food, especially in Senegal which doesn't have the river. Would a university lecturer be working as a tourist guide in his off hours, if the education and infrastructure was so good?

Maybe, it is something to do with his Soviet sympathising over the years. Maybe it has something to do with his admiration of Maduro socialism in Venezuela. Maybe because I am rather suspicious of the people who are his chief advisers, such as Seamus Milne, Andrew Murray (and relatives!) and Len McCluskey.Maybe because of proposals such as the Lifetime Tax. Maybe because his wannabe Chancellor has a stated aim of wanting to bring about the downfall of Capitalism and maybe because , the same fellow was sacked by Ken Livingstone for being too left wing! Maybe because the likes of Corbyn and McDonnell are driven by some outdated ideology that would, in all likelihood,. bankrupt the country. Maybe because many decent and moderate Labour politicians are horrified that the hard left and Momentum have taken over the party.etc.etc.
On a slightly different tack, I would also fear for the security of this country with Corbyn as P.M. and I am sure that the security service chiefs would feel the same way. I don't believe he has the leadership, managerial or intellectual qualities to be leader of the Opposition, let alone P.M.He had been a rebellious backbench MP for the whole of his political career and regarded as a nobody, until, to 'widen the choice' in the Labour Party leadership contest the likes of Frank Field nominated him to run. Wow, what a disaster that turned out to be. The £3 Labour Party gang piled in and hey presto, Jezza became leader! Sadly, the result is that when the Tory party is in a shambles, there is no decent opposition to takes its place. It is surely a fact, that had Labour elected a decent moderate, instead of 'Magic Grandpa', they would be way ahead in the polls. The British public do not like hard left or hard right politics and that is the reason why Corbyn and his dangerous Chancellor have failed to gain the traction any reasonable Opposition party should.
I am no politico and I have put down a few random thoughts; no doubt an 'enthusiast' could do a far more polished job, than me!

The money is in a near 2 trillion pound debt one of the worlds biggest rising at the rate of £5170 a second. We may have a big economy but that doesn't mean where rich or have money to spare.Surprised how people never mention the debt and just moan about cuts and needing to spend more.

This is all true and concerning. It does not detract, however, from the soppiness of the original post. We sadly have more than enough reasons for not voting labour right now, so there is no need to spin a fantasy narrative.

So, currently, the Government policy of austerity is not working then? Let's have MORE austerity then until it works.
