Before anyone asks where's the Rockford Files or Harry O they weren't cops, they were private detectives.

Hawaii five O and not just because of the best opening sequence to any programme and Kojak because it showed the grittiness of 1970's New York and Savalas was a very good actor.

Columbo for me, loved how everyone thought he was a blithering idiot and how surprised they were when he out foxed them.
I preferred the clever characters to the ones where there was physical violence involved.

For me there is a nice connection between some of these shows and football. As a nipper the treat of the week was being able to stay up late in your PJ's to watch Match of The Day. Shows like Cannon, Ironside, Kojak & Starsky and Hutch used to be on just before MOTD and whilst I used enjoy it was always a struggle to keep awake.
