You have to judge most teams in the context of the same team. You wouldn’t judge Brighton against Man United and say they’re a failure. Same with Newcastle. I also wouldn’t say 2nd place is a failure or a club like Newcastle. They have achieved their greatest success in the past 100 years with an attack minded approach.

He played a handful of games for us in Cm under Garcia or possibly Hyypia. He has always been a right back.

Correct, but the facts are they won nothing.
And I bet if you spoke to the Geordies, they would also prefer a slightly tighter defence that would have seen them win the league.

Are we going to spend this early pre season believing their are only 2 types of football performance possible (it’s that simple - yeah ?) with one manager favouring one and one manager the other.

I think we have, fundamentally, a different outlook. In sport, I’d much rather try something, and fail, than not try at all. Not trying is dull. And not trying isn’t competitive....which is the whole point of sport in my mind.

Nope I am going to enjoy us trying to win games in a bit of style rather than trying not to lose them. It may go pear shaped but I’ll worry about it when it happens. I actually ENJOYED watching us today.

Followed by the subsequent posts both from myself and others trying to explain the benefits of not having to be defensive first but still win games, hence my Arsenal analogy from last season. Crap at the back, won more than they lost.
It’s not our objective, it’s yours. I want to see some entertainment. I will not care too much if we are relegated.
