Whenever I’ve watched Derby this season I haven’t been able to figure out what their tactics actually are. It seems to be simply a case of giving the ball to their excellent loan players and hoping they pull something out of thin air.

Whenever I’ve watched Derby this season I haven’t been able to figure out what their tactics actually are. It seems to be simply a case of giving the ball to their excellent loan players and hoping they pull something out of thin air.

I think their shape is to have no shape. Lots of running around, but leave so many gaps. So many players running passed teammates only to leave a whole behind them. The centre half running passed Ashley Cole for the goal was another case in point, all over the shop.
