Why is the Spurs average 54,216 when they've been playing at Wembley with 80,000 seats and all sold out?
That means, after away fans deducted, only 52,000 went to Wembley and yet the new ground is sold out at 57,000 (plus away) and a long waiting list.

I thought they had limited capacity at Wembley.

I'd easily bet there were more actual people in the ground during our 15-16 3rd place than 14-15 20th place - surely this just shows the impact of 'pretendances', with people not renewing their season tickets after our poor season

A lot of games in the second season at Wembley were limited to 51k (ie, no top tier) due to a restriction on the number of full capacity events allowed.

I know the actual attendances are held somewhere.

The lowest league attendance in the AMEX era I recall was about 16,000 for a home match against Wigan Athletic in 2014.

Lowest League attendance at The Amex was 18,412, v Derby County 20 March 2012

The ten attendances below that were all in the League Cup (8) and FA Cup (2)

IIRC when I made a FOI request to the council about a league game against Blackburn the official attendance was 26k, the actual was something like either 15700 or 17500. The council told me they don’t hold records on every game, but they take the details on a random but frequent basis to ensure the safety/staffing/systems etc that are agreed as part of the planning approval are being adhered to.

I'm referring to actual attendees though. The Wigan Athletic game sticks out because they reported 22,000 when it was clear the ground was little over half full. The actual attendance was 16,500 ish (I think)

The 30,000+ attendances are not as frequent as reported but, for sure, there will have been some.

Prior to entering the top flight I always felt the highest attendance was the Palace play-off match. (29,500- you'll have that somewhere). I based that on the ground being seemingly full and, having bought tickets, few would have not taken up their seats. I do wonder what the real averages are.

On another note, thanks for your splendid programme site. Hours of pleasure- and doubtless hours of work for you. You cannot be praised enough.

The 58/59 first season in Division 2 was very annoying as you were unable to wander up and down the Chicken run to get closer to whichever goal was receiving the most attention. Billy Lanes blue and white army.

Arsenal in the FA Cup was packed and had less segregation, although there were a lot more away fans. Pretty sure that was 30,000+.
