Guess we were lucky ! we were walking away from that game with my dad who 82 at the time (ex employee) and got spotted by a car going through the crowd by an ex college of his who gave us a lift, so missed all that no taxi's bit.

Yes. The French tried to call it off due to the bombs in London a couple of days before, but most of us were already on the ferry from Portsmouth.
Everything was fine, with buses laid on from Le Havre to their stadium out of town. Brighton fans rushed into the beer tent eagerly to find they were serving alcohol free lager.
My underwear has the monogram "Captain Obvious" imprinted on it.
