Didn't we also play the East German national team on the same tour and Den Haag. I seem to recall Wardy was sent off against East Germany who basically kicked the sh!t out of him, so he hit one of them.

I may be wrong, as I think we played them at home as well as away..... think the home might have been 4-0, I know I went.

Sparta fans turned up because a few Brighton fans had been detained and then ‘asked’ to leave Holland forthwith after the previous match. (Groningen ?) The incident made the Argos and although the actual ‘deed’ was an accident it got the Rotterdam lads interested.
I think it kicked off mainly because of that.
It was 4 or 5 of The Clifton boys and yes you can guess Nigel ‘The Mascot’ Erskine was with them.
