That said, there are plenty more managers out of work than in, so I have no doubt there will be plenty of interest as the PL seems to be the league where plenty want to get involved in. Pretty confident Bloom will make the right choice, whether it is Potter or not, too early to say

This is exactly where I am.

Potter will be looking at which option is less risky to his future career, I don’t think it’s about his shorter term contracted or offered salary.

Who has sold their club best to him.

If he stays at Swansea, then you could argue that he thinks our problems are too deep rooted for him to fix in six months.

Ashworth started in late Feb

Went to 4-3-3 in December

As others have mentioned already, I don't believe there's any miscalculation regarding whether a specific manager will join us. The calculation was simply whether Chris was the right man to take us forward, or not. They decided not. No idea whether or not that's a miscalculation, but it's independent of whom we eventually appoint.

Another odd thing that springs to mind is why award a manager with extended contracts that you may not want to fulfil?

Had Hughton's contract naturally ran out this season we would have been in a better position to line up a manager to take over, and would have saved the indignity of sacking Hughton, and not looking so ruthless in the process.

Good managers will want the confidence of the board, and want a decent contract length. It's also good if the players expect the manager to be sticking around. The cost of paying them off, should it go wrong, is perhaps not that high compared to the overall playing budget.

But is that not the professional thing to do? He is currently employed by Swansea and was conducting a scouting mission that had been arranged and paid for long before this speculation came out. As long as he's in receipt of a pay cheque from Swansea he is contractually bound to fulfil his duties. For what it's worth, his head of recruitment will be coming with him if he does decide to join us.

Yes good point and it does sound professional. I wonder if his mind was fully on the job with the speculation about our approach. Just seems a little weird to me although I know I am wrong.

Quite. I remember Ashley Barnes' last game for us. He was on his way to Burnley and could have opted out of playing (Bridcutt, remember, wasn't in the right frame of mind to play). Instead, he rampaged round the field like a bull, didn't pull out of any tackles and set up our goal.

How could a scouting mission to a play-off fixture have been "organised for weeks"?

LOL : not quite and no he didn't nick one of the paper clips - Yeh I know you were on the ''Hughton In'' team Trigaaar. - yeh quite sad for me but these things happen in football.

No I will still post. Chris had some good years here and for the most part he is very well thought of still at Brighton amongst the fans, so I would like to see his legacy kick on from here. He built something special at the club.

I certainly don't share Kosh's opinions - You can never go back. It wouldn't be the same. I would have loved him to have got a few more years to build upon the hard work he put in over the last 4 years but it wasn't to be. That's the football world and both parties have new challenges waiting for them.

I would love to see Chris go and be the driving force for change in increasing BME Representation amongst Football Managers and in the Higher Echelons of the Industry. He has been the most consistently successful black manager in the history of British Football. So who better to drive something like that forward and leave a true legacy behind on that front. But who knows. He loves the Management side of things, so it might be hard for him to give that up.

If he's interested in the job here, I'd still expect him to fulfill his commitments with Swansea, until he's been offered a job here. It would be shooting himself in the foot Gus style to start showing a lack of interest in Swansea, only to not get offered a job here.
