Keep half an eye on the goings on in Caracas today as there seems to be a coup attempt going on. If you really dig down, this is also a proxy fight between Russia and the USA. Russia even has troops on the ground in support of Maduro, while the US is in full support of Guaidó and in the past hasn't ruled out military action.

Hopefully a peaceful outcome will emerge, but it could get messy if someone hotheaded blunders.

Chance of a peaceful outcome = 0 It is the way of regimes, despots and tyrants to go messily, see, Thrones, Game Of.

Of course it's nothing to do with oil is it? No siree, no way countries would interfere with an oil producing nation... Oh, wait a minute.

Quite right. It's not a matter of whether there will be deaths, it's a matter of how many. Especially now that armoured cars are driving into crowds.

My mate who lives in Grenada, keeps telling about all the Russians that are buying property there, pushing the dollar out.

Had a wonderful holiday in Venezuela in 1994, such lovely people, wonderful scenery, Angel Falls was amazing. That said, the national bank went bust while we were there, it’s all such a shame it’s gone so wrong there.

What a mess that place is. I spend quite a bit of time in Latin America, and the refugee situation is a nightmare. This isn't about oil - it's about complete economic mismanagement. Yes Venezuela have oil, but Chavez gave loads of it away to the poor and to Cuba... giving away your most valuable resource is ridiculous. Short-term gain to make socialism look wonderful has backfired spectacularly

yes a fine example of socialism in action.

Austerity has worked a lot better for us than the Venezuelan's, us Brits just accept poor wages, dwindling public services and Food Banks as a necessity, but, you don't see us rioting or having a go.

Lets see how you do when you are forced to eat roadkill or cats and dogs with your austerity.

I've already had some roadkill, not a big fan of cats or dogs, always find them a bit chewy.

My wife has relations out there. Makes you wonder what the world has become when food packages arranged over here, are sent via Miami for distribution....allegedly of course. If we had to queue for three hours for a loaf of bread because the government says so, I'm sure the British would soon lose the 'stiff upper lip' and be up for a lynching
