My worry is that, although we've remembered how to defend, we still might struggle to create any chances. If toon can nick a goal we might be in real trouble.

I am not sure as yes we played well but in the end we got nothing, as was expected ,but it gave us hope that we could defend for an extra 5 minutes against Arsenal so all is not lost.

Much less confident we'll stay up. The goal will have sapped the team's morale even further and there's no chance we'll score another goal this season, meaning the most we can pick up is a point against Toon. That won't be enough.

I don’t

The last two games we have played against two top teams. The team spirit, which was supposed to have been lost, is back.

If we stay up, and if TB and the Board want to stay in this division for longer, significant investment is needed. £30m players not £15m, a higher wage structure.
We need to be operating on a par with Southampton, Pal*ce, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Watford.
CH cannot get this squad any higher up without better players.

And over the next couple of weeks, in worse case, we will get two points from the last three

We just have to hope that Cardiff don’t win both! And then try and re-structure. But it will be a big risk investing heavily with a new manager.

Last night was heroic backs to the wall last ditch defending, bodies on the line stuff. I’m sure Hughton was very happy with it.

But he is missing the point. We always defend like that away to the big six and commit absolutely nothing going forward, but we can’t ever hold out for the full 90 minutes. Sometimes the opposition score early and roll us over, sometimes we hold on longer and they score late. But the result is always the same, and I n those fixtures he’s played 11, lost 11.

So while it nearly worked last night, it is proven beyond any doubt that the tactic as a whole doesn’t work. But hey, let’s keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.

Last night was like watching a League 1 team going to play the famous Spurs in the FA Cup. Attack v defence, like a training exercise. If I was Bloom I would be embarrassed to watch it, when I’d spent £80 million on attacking players in the last two years.

Hughton doesn’t seem to think we deserve to be here, or have any chance of scoring a goal. His defeatism is really starting to annoy me.

It’s still in our hands, we’re home to Newcastle on Saturday. Beat them and we’ll stay up, so we’ll no doubt play to not lose, which will probably be enough. Get the points we need and we can bring this whole dreary project to a close, and get someone in the Summer who is younger and more dynamic, and who isn’t tired and hasn’t completely given up on his team being able to actually playing football yet. I just hope there is enough left in the tank to get us over the line, because we’re not going to be back any time soon if there isn’t.

Yep.

The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. In a way, staying up and sticking with Hughton will be the worst of both possible worlds. Folk here may as well not bother going away at all while our stock with the media and our overseas brand - two essential things in the PL that no one even talks about in the Championship - will be so low as to be non existent.

This ...

More than anything, that game has left me frustrated, annoyed and confused that we find ourselves in this position in the first place.

Our survival was never likely to be defined by an away game at Spurs. So why did we sleepwalk through home games vs. junk like Saints, Bournemouth, Cardiff and flush 9 points down the shitter?

We could and probably should have been home and hosed weeks ago.

And also this ....
Less. Because we lost. And it’s another game where our players just learn never to attack another team in numbers. The idea we can suddenly switch when playing so called lesser teams has been the fallacy of the season

Newcastle is our last 'winnable' game (ha ha), so we're probably play more like we did against Cardiff, Saints and Bournemouth as opposed to like we did against Man City and Spurs.

Slightly less confident as it’s a hame down and no more points. Or goals.

Massively proud of the team last night though but I just think we have a look of ‘that’ team who slide in to relegation, terrible run of form, then fighting bravely but conceding a late goal that knocka the stuffing out of us etc.

After the last few weeks I also haven’t got a clue what will happen on Saturday. How confident we will be, how we’ll set up, whether Newcastle will bother showing up now they’re safe etc and the Rafa situation.

Saturday is the day though, assuming worst case and we do lose, if Cardiff also lose I think we’ll be alright. If they win, then I think we’ll be down.

I said to my mate next to me on 83 minutes. If it stays 0-0 we stay up.

Now it’s all on Saturday.

Will always support this club but now not very confident

The way the loss happened was soul crushing. I doubt the team can emotionally bounce back and a get single point the rest of the season. Basically, it now all depends on whether or not Cardiff can get a win and a tie in their remaining games, which is doable (win against Fulham, Tie against C.P).

About the same. Like Goldstone, I'm more confident about our GD, but then yesterday was a chance to get a point, so...
So Satdi will probably decide it.
Saturday is indeed massive, but it probably won't be quite decided still. If we win and they lose, then it's decided. Anything else leaves us room for nail biting. If they win and we lose, we'll become favourites to go down, but it still won't be over.

More confident ... feel proud of the team tonight. Still don’t know where the goal is coming from though. Andone looked most like scoring but was the right decision to take him off as he looked like he could get a red card. Just hope that he was annoyed about being subbed rather than any dressing room discontent.

It was noticeable that when Andone was subbed, Hughton totally ignored him (unlike the Ali J substitution). No handshake (or equivalent), no word exchanged; Hughton didn't even look at him. Something isn't right; that's not how a manager should behave towards a player who had performed pretty well all things considered.

I wanted to write most of what you have in your post but have become so apathetic this season I couldn't be bothered.

It could be very toxic after the final whistle at The Amex on Saturday. I'm going but really not looking forward to it.

It's the hope that kills you. I was expecting zero points, but to get zero points at such a late stage after a great defensive performance, it will probably knock the players and give Cardiff a tiny boost.

So I'm feeling a little less confident.

If Fulham win on Saturday, I will love them forever, but I can really see 6 points from the next 2 for Cardiff. PLEASE can we score some goals and get 3 points on Saturday, we need the 3 point gap at the Man City game!

I'm comfortably realistic Trig. We couldn't buy a goal if Hughton walked in to a specialist goal shop with a huge bundle of cash. You only had to look at Dunk and Duffy at the end of last night to see the despair coming back in. I fancy Cardiff to get a result at Fulham and then Palace to stitch us up.

I can't see palace doing that, they need the money more than most clubs around them to sustain their ridiculous wages.

Or it could be brilliant as we celebrate our safety. This is why we go to football matches.

There should be an option for... Ask me after Newcastle.

Saturday's game is our season wrapped in to one game. Should never have come down to this.
