just buy a Webber, expensive upfront but considering how long they last they work out cheap in the end.

It depends on your budget and how much use it will get and for how many people.
First find out what they want it for - ie, a few burgers in the summer, more regular use, or for more interesting cooking (smoking etc, or even pizzas). Then work out what they're willing to pay for that. Then choose the right bbq. Then find out where to get it from.
I always enjoy the annual gas v charcoal debate on NSC.
Best bet is a split gas/charcoal option, best of everything.
