Coldplay - see Hot Chip

Oasis - a band desperate to be seen as cool with bags of attitude call themselves...Oasis!

The Beatles. What were they thinking?

Apparently...

Cynthia Lennon said:
John loved ‘Buddy Holly and the Crickets’, so they toyed with insect names. It was John who came up with ‘Beetles’. He changed it to ‘Beatles’ because he said if you turned it round it was ‘les beat’, which sounded French and cool. They settled on the ‘Silver Beatles’

I guess by 'bad' names the OP means 'bad' as in 'rubbish'. The band with the really BAD (as in grim) name, is Joy Division.

I had a discussion about names with someone ages ago (possibly on here, possibly on FB), but in this case about a pub (Piston Broke in Shoreham-by-Sea - they didn't like it). My view was that I couldn't give a crap what it was called as long as it was good. Same applies to me about music.

This thread alone is evidence that it doesn't really matter what a band is called. People like what they like.

Metal bands often have interesting names. Pig Destroyer and Cattle Decapitation are two names which amuse me.

I hope I'm not derailing, but the first thing that entered my head was really good bands with really shit names. Top of my list is 'toad, the wet sprocket'. I mean, what were they thinking?
