Me, the Frau and Dan The Irishman, who some of you met at the Liverpool game, are meeting tomorrow for breakfast and then to plunder the Berlin shops. Missing the game to see Hot Chip as well.

It's tomorrow.

The annual homage to the beautiful people running our record stores. And this year is big.

Already - at 11.30am this morning - the queue has started outside Resident Records. I kid you not.

Here's what's in store for us vinyl lovers!

http://www.resident-music.com/collection&path=28802

Gutted to miss this day - laid up with a heavy cold.

Any idea on best place to grab leftovers?

Keen on Lost In Translation OST, The Crow OST, the Bowie albums (obviously) and U2’s Europa EP (assuming it’s from the Zooropa/Pop era, as it appears to be).

For me, as I suspected, it’s getting very eclectic... too Mojo... too Peel to be appealing to the masses, which is what is should be about... independent record shops, specialising in isolating themselves from the mainstream, whilst championing an event allegedly designed to ensure the growth and survival of a niche market... NEVER going to happen. Did none of these guys see Hi Fidelity FFS.

It’s up it’s own arse a go go... which is where most of the record shops I frequent deserve to disappear.

So, i’m on my hols in the West Country in a record shop this week and I try to engage the owner in a conversation about RSD, if he could have said “listen mate, you look like the kind of bloke who likes Yes and Focus, so just do me a favour and **** off.” He would.

Standard, and they wonder why they’re a dying breed.

I will never support them or it.

We have a great record shop in Reading (sound machine) been there for years, seem to do it for love of it and not at all up themselves at all, sell quality second hand vinyl at a very reasonable rate, cheaper then I can find on eBay.

I used to spend a lot of time in wax factor when at Brighton college late 80’s early 90’s went in there a few weeks ago and was amazed how expensive they were compared to the place in Reading

The prices have gone up and up, and editions are not that limited. The queen double was £53, you buy 4 or 5 nice original copies of their lps for that. There are very few releases over the years that have kept their value. I think it may have had its day.

I agree, there were a few RSD releases that I was interested but the ridiculous prices put me off.

Saw The Wedding Present play an acoustic set at Resident earlier. Perfect antidote to today’s match with free beers too.

Lost in Translation sold out very early on. It seems to have been top of many people's wish list.

Resident seemed to think the Bowie stuff would be popular when I spoke to them on Friday.

I started queuing at Resident on Saturday, but it was a 2 hour wait, so I went down to Vinyl Revolution and just walked in. It was the same at Cult Hero. They had loads of stuff.

It does seem that Resident appears to be the place everyone flocks to, but as a result, the experience in there on the day is not very good. To be fair to Resident, they did have the Cult Hero and Vinyl Revolution stock lists, and as stuff sold out they were recommending to people in the queue that they might want to go there. That's class.

Whether you like it or not, vinyl appeals to a certain demographic which has age and money. Vinyl doesn’t appeal to the masses. Hence RSD is skewed towards Mojo and Peel....as you put it. You’ll have to go elsewhere for your Billy Eilish and Skrillex.

Definitely nothing to do with the fact it gives you a legitimate reason to own a picture of Scarlett Johanssen’s bum.

I think record store day is a load of bollocks.

From someone with a significant record collection and who has written, recorded and released real records.

I wholeheartedly agree. As someone with over 500 Lps of Prog, rock and folk... from the classic late 60s forwards... well, as I said, RSD for me should be about inclusivity not elitist geeks paying elitist prices in shops run by know all miserabilists who have zero charisma and don’t deserve the ‘semi mystic legend’ status the muso press lay at their dank, dark and often damp doorways. These snobs continue to charge frankly fantasy prices for battered relics and charge mint prices for discs that are VG at best... nah; I had my fill a long time back.

I continue to find bargains in charity shops, where at least my money goes to a good cause. eBay too helps me avoid having to suffer the appalling face to face customer service from dealers.

RSD has become a self-effacing almost odd event frequented by anoraks who are just too eclectic to be genuine. Sad, as I feel this represents a real opportunity, to widen the industry appeal, lost.

Oh, I never DL btw.
