I got a text from my brother yesterday about 6 saying that there were
loads of Brighton in the Eight Bells pub and it was a cracking atmosphere. That's
his local and for him to say that it must have been good (he's a fussy
sort).

Any reports?

Three of us left from Mile Oak, at Portslade we joined about another 20 Albion fans on the platform, changed at Hove where about another 50 lads got on, next stop Hayward’s Heath and our numbers doubled again. By the time we made Victoria there were about 150 chaps ready to sing their hearts out for the lads, but the Met Police didn’t like that and began to harass and escort us and generally make life difficult. A couple got chucked out of The Underground for smoking, others nicked for any reason the Met made up. The main body of the group travelled to Fulham Broadway by Tube, but a few of the others got Taxis and joined us later.

We got to the Eight Bells a couple of hours before kick off and proceeded to have a grand old time. No trouble, just drinking and singing, the landlord was as happy as Larry. When the main group went to leave for the match the Met had organised a reception committee outside the pub, Transit vans full of coppers, 3 or 4 horses etc, claiming glasses had been thrown in and around the pub. All utter boxxocks but par for the course. The walk to the ground was quiet as the boys in blue were looking for any excuse for a ruck.

Once inside by around 15 mins before kick off it took only 10 more mins to find myself ejected from the ground for swearing! By half time around 30/40 Albion fans were outside due to ridiculous policing. We actually ended up having a kick about in the local park with the local kids, which again the Met tried to break up.

But this was circa 1985 and Fulham away, have not got a clue about last night but it brought back some good memories!
