Just received a pop up about this, I already use basic AVG virus detector. It says my location is visible to all and that my server can see all I do, is that so? Does accepting Cookies everytime I go on sites have anything to do with it?

They're just trying to make you scared so you sign up. Your location is "visible" in so much as your IP address can be traced back to an ISP and a guess can be made as to your location based on that. It's far from an exact science and at best all you can usually work out is the city someone is in. And yes your Internet Service Provider's server can "see" what you're doing but that is how the internet works. Basically unless you have a need to appear with be in a different country (for example to watch iPlayer while abroad or access torrent websites) then I wouldn't bother.

People use a VPN to pretend they're somewhere exotic to watch the match,or spoof live vid suppliers.Does cut out some of the pop-up ads on pc.

AVG just trying to flog you a VPN by playing on fears of security.

The Opera Browser offers a free VPN, albeit it works more like a Proxy server than a true VPN. It would still disguise your IP address if that's important to you. If you watch Netflix on PC, be aware that it doesn't work through some VPN's including AVG. Recent review suggested that AVG VPN slows your download speeds significantly.

If you have an Android or Apple phone or tablet (about 95% of you probably do) then VPNhub offers free VPN services with its app:

https://www.vpnhub.com

Unfortunately desktop users have to pay. Brought to you by the company that runs pornhub which means they are very privacy conscious.
