And finally, we take to the water for the final knockout match. This one promises to be interesting.

Mantis Shrimp

Mantis Shrimp.jpg

A former champion. The mantis shrimp stormed to WHC victory WHC on its debut year in 2014. Since then it has flattered to deceive and failed to make it out of the group stage in 2018. It's small but magnificently formed. It can hunt with either smasher or spear claws, both of which inflict serious damage on significantly larger prey. The Shrimp’s party piece is a punch of such speed that it creates cavity bubbles, which ultimately collapse and create a secondary shock wave that disables and kills its prey. Has also been known to break the tank containing it. Hard.

Saltwater Crocodile

The Croc was on the end of a rough draw in 2018; coming up against the victorious Hippo early doors and bowing out at this stage. A perennial contender, the Croc will be looking to go deep into the tournament this time round. Quite simply, it’s the best biter on Planet Earth. It’s a creature with a "death roll". A creature that has walked the Earth for over four million years. It is a truly terrifying predator that can grow up to six metres in length, the Croc can lie in wait submerged for up to an hour before mounting its ambush. The Croc is thought to attack around 30 people each year; half of which result in a fatality. They are said to be the most dangerous creature in Australia. In a country where everything is out to get you that is a very high bar indeed.

Stick to the land, folks.

Day 1 review.

There's been no debate and no mudslinging thus far. Perhaps that goes some way to explaining why this is such a tight contest. The strongly fancied Croc has the lead but the Shrimp is keeping it honest. This one could go the distance.

The Croc was outed last year when it was revealed that the Hippo spanked him so he should therefore be completely disregarded and eliminated from this year's competition. And as for the shrimp......

The shrimp, fastest punch, hides in a cave, hits tiny crabs.

Crocs take on herds of angry wilderbeast. Hard.

The wilderbeast are hardly angry...they're just behaving like lemmings and all the crocs have to do is sit in the water with their mouths open and wait for the Wilderbeast to jump off the cliff straight into them....wow, that's tough.

They've got horns and hooves. They can be very grumpy when you try to eat them.

Oof! What a contest this is. It's like the fifteenth round in Rocky.

You're doing a great job Jim. Impossible scenario with Brexit, relegation and an FA Cup semi final to contend with. While the group stages lacked a bit of detail and panache in the presentation, you've upped your game for these knockout rounds.

That said, if the shrimp wins this, may as well pack the whole thing in.
