Following on from the squad strength discussion have we become one of those sides that have over prioritised the off field stuff versus the on field?

Let's face it, we have one of the best grounds in one of the best leagues in the world. Compared to the view-free death traps that are Goodison or Selhurst or Plucky Bournemouth's postage stamp we are pulling way above our weight in this department and the stadium goes from strength to strength.

We've added Dan Ashworth from England to the back room staff. We all know PB never misses a trick to rinse us for a few quid but that's what he's employed to do and we turned a profit last time out. We have the well published "no dickheads" policy, have given Liam Rosenior gainful employment and have a community charity associated to us that does amazing work and continues to build our brand with new fans (see Friday's Blue and White Day in schools as a great example). Our pies and burgers are delicous.

We also have, IMO, one of the 5 worst squads in the division. Our league place is no accident.

Is the balance right?

No. We need a wider choice of beers as well.

Survival will do as we build is the message I get, the quality of the football is not of paramount importance.

The plan is to maintain premier league status in a sustainable manner.
We are lucky to have a manager who is capable of achieving that and won't be threatening to disappear unless we spend more than we can afford.

Those fans who want us to be using the new found money to attract better players, have a point.
i.e. what's the point of getting here if we aren't going to compete?

However, the sums required to gamble on success are vast.
There is no guarantee of avoiding relegation, even when you take the gamble.

I am happy with the direction the club is taking.

I am still amazed that the club is where it is,being managed and directed in a cautious, sensible manner, and hoping Connolly will turn out to be the football genius that wins Albion the Prem.
