Yesterday I started a thread with a poll on addictions. In the poll I listed various addictions. When I posted the poll one of the addictions was censored and represented as a line of 12 asterisk.
I was surprised as the word was not a swear word and not what I'd consider particularly offensive. The word was ************ or just in case it's censored again when I post this, "mast**bation".
I'm surprised that particular word is considered offensive. I would have understood if I'd written ******* (wa*king).

The Americanisation of our language is horrible - for example "Mom" rather than "Mum" now seems to be the "acceptable" form of defining your female parent. We'll be celebrating bloody Thanksgiving as a national holiday next.
