No it's pointless unless something like qualification for Europe or a bye through 3rd round next year up for grabs.
Olympics about the only time it's relevant as bronze medal. World Cup 3rd/4th games you see second elevens out etc. which says it all

The Olympics don't have a third place play off in some sports. In boxing, for instance, both the losing semi-finalists get a bronze, without having to fight again for it. Quite right too - 3rd. and 4th. place play-offs are an unwanted nuisance to everyone concerned, and nobody gives a s**t.
