Millwall v Albion

FA CUP SIXTH ROUND

Venue: The Den
Date: Sunday 17th March 2019
Kick-off: 14:00 GMT
Referee: Christopher Kavanagh
Assistants: Dan Cook, Sian Massey-Ellis
Fourth official: Kevin Friend

TEAM NEWS

Millwall will monitor forward Lee Gregory, who was withdrawn in the second half of Wednesday's win at Birmingham because of a tight calf.

Ben Thompson, who scored both goals in that game, is cup-tied, while Ben Marshall is also ineligible.

Defender Murray Wallace is suspended, though he would have missed this match regardless because of a knee injury.

Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma is banned after being booked in each of the last two rounds of the FA Cup.

Florin Andone and Pascal Gross are ruled out by injuries, but defender Leon Balogun is available after missing the last five games with a shoulder problem.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

Johnathan Pearce: Can the Lions roar again? They have devoured the last five top-flight teams who've dared to tip-toe into their Den.

They've won 31 FA Cup games since 2004 - the fifth best record in the country. It's their 11th quarter-final while outside the top flight. Only Southampton can better that.

But Brighton are a different proposition to the Premier peacocks who've preened there and been picked off.

Their players were in the Championship just two years ago. They know what it takes to win at Millwall. It is over 11 years since they lost there. They are hungry.

Despite crucial recent wins in their relegation battles both have league concerns, but Brighton can more comfortably pick their strongest side ahead of the international break.

Millwall will be without key players injured, suspended and cup-tied. That could prove the difference.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Millwall manager Neil Harris: "The Den will be rocking at the weekend, even more so now on the back of [Wednesday's win at Birmingham), everyone will be more vibrant and positive.

"Brighton have experienced players and certainly a top manager. They'll come to want to beat us, but we'll enjoy it and what I do know is my players will have a right go because they want to be in the semi-final."

Chris Hughton: "I went to see [Millwall] on Wednesday - they're a good and physical side.

"We'll start as favourites, but they're the home team on the back of a scalp in the previous round.

"I don't see this game as being any easier than last weekend [against Crystal Palace]."

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

  • [*=left]Millwall won 3-1 in the only previous FA Cup tie between these sides, a first-round replay on 19 November 1956. The sides had drawn 1-1 at Brighton's Goldstone Ground two days earlier.
[*=left]The last eight games, all in the Championship, have produced five draws, two Brighton wins and one Millwall victory.
[*=left]The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last six games at the Den (D3, L3) since a 3-0 loss on Boxing Day 2007.
Millwall

  • [*=left]They have reached their third FA Cup quarter-final in seven years - more than any other side from outside the Premier League in that time.
[*=left]All 11 of Millwall's FA Cup quarter-final appearances have come while outside the top flight; only Southampton (13 appearances) have reached this stage more often as a league league side.
[*=left]The Lions have won their last five FA Cup home matches against top-flight opposition, beating Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Watford, Leicester and Everton.
[*=left]The Londoners have lost just one of their last 15 home games in this competition (W11, D3).
[*=left]They have not beaten a top-flight side at this stage since eliminating Manchester City in 1937.

Albion

  • [*=left]They are in the last eight for the second successive season but only the fourth time in their history.
[*=left]Brighton's solitary win at this stage came against Norwich on 12 March 1983, when Jimmy Case scored the only goal at the Goldstone Ground.
[*=left]Their other quarter-finals ended in 2-0 defeats - at home to Southampton in 1986 and away to Manchester United last season.
[*=left]The Seagulls have won eight of their previous nine FA Cup ties as a top-flight club against lower league opposition, with the only defeat coming against third-tier Oxford United in 1982.
[*=left]Anthony Knockaert has two goals and two assists in his last five FA Cup appearances.

London bridge to South Bermondsey trains have no problems this morning. Have a safe journey up to the Den. Just remember to keep it low key outside the ground. Should be a good game.

4th Official Kevin Friend was the ref for Watford Palace. Seems strange to have him for two matches in two days. With few games this weekend are the others all away on holiday?
Yes I know his only job is to control CH but should the ref fall ill he will be called upon to do a job. Interesting to see the response to Sian Massey-Ellis running the line. She does a good job but wonder if the lower leagues have female linesmen/women/person refs assistant.

No suprise. Came down from Manchester yesterday. He is a senior ref and would be a replacement if friend got injured. The FA always use their besft refs for these games. It goes on thier CV.

Really nervous about today. Such a big opportunity for my eldest and I to see the Albion at Wembley for the first time (and his first time seeing us at a neutral ground)

Would love is to get to the Semis and then the final but 30 years of supporting Albion has taught me to be cautious at best and pessimistic at worst!
