Albion goalkeeper Tom McGill has been named in the England U-19 squad for the Elite qualification round of matches for the 2019 UEFA European U-19 championship. England will play three matches (all at St George's Park, Burton) starting next Wednesday against the Czech Republic and followed by matches against Greece on March 23 and Denmark on March 26 - A 21-STRONG SQUAD HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR ENGLAND U19S' ELITE EURO QUALIFIERS AT SGP

McGill last played for England at U-17 level when he started in a similar Elite qualifier against the Czech Republic out in Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 23 2017. He did travel with the England U-17 squad to the European Championship Finals tournament in Croatia that May, but only as a non-playing member of the squad. (As it happens, McGill was actually born in Canada).

McGill is currently out on loan at Basingstoke Town. Earlier in the season he was on loan at Greenwich Borough (and should have been on loan at Worthing until they cancelled the arrangement after Lucas Covolan remained with the club in August of last year).

Despite being named in the 21-man England squad, McGill was the odd-man out and wasn't included in the 20-man matchday squad for today's 4-1 victory for England U-19s over the Czech Republic. The next fixture is on Saturday against Greece so we'll have to wait and see whether the management will rotate the 3 goalkeepers or whether McGill will be left kicking his heels.

Tom McGill was an unused substitute on Saturday as England U-19s lost 2-1 to Greece. They have to win their final match against Denmark tomorrow, and hope Greece don't beat the Czech Republic, to qualify for the 2019 UEFA European U-19 Championship finals in Armenia in July.

McGill was an unused sub again today as England could only draw 2-2 with Denmark. As the Czechs beat Greece 3-1, it is they who take the place in the finals in Armenia this summer (given that England beat the Czechs 4-1 in the opening game, they will be disappointed in their subsequent two matches in this round of qualifying).
