Why can't we use more balls...?!

the time we spend waiting for the ball to be retrieved is amazing. Particularly when one team is trying to time waste, or some cheeky wag in the crowd won't give it back. Or if the ball-boy/girl is right over the other side of the ground...

Other teams have six or eight balls strategically placed around the perimeter, with play sped up dramatically through chucking on a new one the moment the old one goes out of play.

Apart from anything else, we generally lose the ball to the opposition at our own throw-ins. Cracking on with it as soon as it goes out would give us more chance of keeping possession.

Why do we use one ball?
