Were yiu there? Did you need to show identification with your ticket to gain admittance today? How easy was getting into, and out of Smellhurst? Any trouble with the police, or Palarse fans?

ID was enforced, had to show my ST at the turnstile.

No problem getting in, felt pretty relaxed police wise compared to palace visiting Brighton.

Getting out we had a police escort to the station, all very smooth.

Some bother at Haywards Heath station coming back tho?

After a quite tense discussion with the MET I was allowed straight out through the cordon. Bloody rude as it goes, when I said I lived nearby the WPC responded "everyone says that".

.. now they don't really do they ?

:D

It was explained to me that it was for my "own protection". Sorry guys, everyone is still in the stadium. I'm on home ground and I really don't need your help. Wasn't looking round desperately for PC Balkam.

The problem at this fixture (and I've witnessed it before) is that some police and stewards treat everyone as a potential hooligan. It's extraordinary how "hyped up" some are.

Obviously most are fine, I had to direct a couple of coppers to the station after the game who were lost.

Had the same thing at Milwall a few times while living in New X. Problem was had to walk out of the station and through all the Milwall fans who were waiting on the other side of the cage getting dogs abuse from the lot of them. No aggro though, just a few homophobic slurs which quite quickly petered out when they saw I was walking with my girlfriend in hand (now wife) :)

We flashed our id tickets with our tickets but no one actually checked the names on either.
Little mob of Palace tried to get at us Just outside of Norwood Junction but they were well outnumbered.
Special Train from NJ to Brighton made the home trip easier than some home games.
Stewards were chilled so people anywhere and everywhere inside the stadium.

My ID was checked and a massive commendation to the away stewards, totally chilled and spot on attitude as non-confrontational.

However I am sure the result made the happy kettle back to the station a fun walk

Tickets and IDs were checked, including making sure that the names matched when we got to the ground (not many other Brighton fans around at that time so may explain why they actually bothered)

Relaxed stewarding is one thing but is it too much to ask to make sure people at least stand next to a designated seat.

Shocking view and largely due to the volume of people stood in the walkways .

No one bothered with checking season ticket or ID. Certainly didn't look at the name on the ticket. They did take my bottle cap though. That memo certainly got through!

This was some guy in our carriage in the train. He wanted to fight everyone for no apparent reason.

'nobody will shag him' is the usual reason ???

I remember the second time I went to Underhill I arrived just before KO, and there was someone in my seat. It was rammed. He said 'well there is someone in my seat'. So I got a steward. Thence followed a protracted game of stadium Rubic cube, with the stressed out stewards struggling to accomodate 200 odd people who had all been forced to sit elsewhere owing to the selfish twunts who had bullied their way into the central seats. They gave up after about five moves, with some poor sod agreeing to sit somewhere inappropriate.

If the ****ers (and I mean the PL in conjunction with the gormless ministers still carrying out the orders of Margaret Thatcher and that oaf MP from Luton, David somecuntorother) force everyone to sit, then the ****ers need to make sure that people can sit in their seats. They don't, always/often, and it seems that it is an unwritten rule at football for a large number that all normal rules of human engagement are suspended. I gather that people no longer piss in your pocket at the Anfield Kop, but still, progress at the football is slow. They will be letting women in next.

With the swathes of spotty yoof that now follow the team away, it will be a wembley cup game or another hospitality gig that drags me to another away game.
