[Football] Has the bar been raised for points to survive after today?

Yes, the bar has been raised because the teams at the bottom keep pulling of surprise wins (damn them!) But 40 points will still certainly be enough - and we're 6 points ahead of our target to get there.

Agreed, surprised that people are always quick to write teams off based on their 'tough remaining fixtures'. Every season is the same, previously awful teams start to win tough games. It's in our own hands, that's what counts.

And if they were to get 9 points (3 wins) from those games, which is a points per game improvement on what they have achieved so far ( looks a hard run in to me) then we need 4 points as our goal difference is much better. So I reckon 37 points should do it, and anything above that gives us a safety cushion.
What it does say to me is that draws aren't the end of the world especially at home to Southampton and Cardiff.

I really really really hope Burnley end up going down.

1. I really don't like Burnley
2. It would shut old gravely voice up.
3. I really don't like Burnley
4. It would probably mean Cardiff will take one the bottom 3 slots next season
5. I really don't like Burnley

You need a point six in my opinion:
6. I really really really really really don't like Burnley.

Quite a few big weekends.

Yesterday was a disaster for Croydon as so many clubs below them did well. Makes our win even more important.

Plenty of twists and turns to come.

Think Hodgson expressed it rather eloquently. If you are on 36 pts, with a few games in hand,it's a downhill run.If you still need to get to 36 pts, with few games in hand,it's uphill all the way.

36 points still the target?

Personally don’t think it will be enough.

Exciting isn’t it.

I think 36 will be enough. For it not to be the case, Cardiff have to win 3 or their remaining 8 games....which I don’t think they’ll do.

I always keep 40 in mind, I never felt it would be certain with 36, but two more wins against the two below us would do it, but Stains no push over just now. I really hope Burnley go down, I hate their style of play.

Bloody hell. Just done some number crunching for Huddersfield. With 8 games to go, even if they win their next five games they will still be in the relegation zone. See ya.

If ever one team was going to be able to "out Burnley" Burnley in terms of never giving up - then it would be one managed by Neil Warnock

The absolute key is we don't lose to either Southampton or Cardiff in the games against them. Preferably win but vital they don't make points on us from those games.

I agree Cardiff's next few games are awful and so if we beat them I can't see them finishing above us. That's not to say Cardiff will defintely go down; Burnley could run out of gas in the final weeks, what with their season starting in July and their small squad. If Cardiff beat Burnley they have a chance.

Cardiff are 4-1 on for relegation for a good reason. Their last games are very difficult. I plugged in the points calculator and they get 31 points excluding what the get from the game against us.

Burnley must be worried, they have nearly as tough a run in as Cardiff.

Cardiff fixtures

Chelsea (H) - Nul points
Man City (A) - Nul points
Burnley (A) - Loser in real trouble
Liverpool (H) - Nul points
Fulham (A) - Could WIN
Palace (H) - Easy WIN
Man Utd (A) - Nul points

and Brighton (A) tbc - ???

6-12 points there, so a 34-40 points finish.

7 points sees us above that on gd, for sure. Beat them and we'll just need further point.
