Cool thanks, yes I've got an iPhone 7 so I'll take a look at the app and see what I need to do to set it up if it's worth doing for out there! We're going to do a day tour to the south rim, which takes in the Hoover dam as well. Haven't booked it yet as seems like there are different choices.

its £££ but would always recommend the helicopter to do the Canyon due to the time it takes in a bus.

Yeah I saw someone mention a Helicopter but won't be able to afford that! We're going for 4 nights so a day out on the bus tour will be fine

Second this - we did the bus to the South Rim, it’s c5 hours each way and there’s literally nothing to see en route apart from the Hoover Dam (but you won’t stop there). They’ll stop for a meal in both directions but they’ll be little more than (crap) service stations

As it happened the day we went most flights were cancelled due to wind anyway so I guess we made the right choice (or chose the wrong day).

Amazing place to visit though. Staggering.

Phone the helicopter company on the day and see if they will list you for standby - massively cheaper .

Spoke to the Missus and she says to book it! As a once in a life time trip on our wedding anniversary on 21st May! It'll cost us £600 but sounds like it'll be worth it based on reviews on here and on tripadvisor, so thanks for the tip KG!

Does anyone know if the north end of the Monorail is close to the North Premium outlets?

It’s a lot - but it’s well worth it!

Helicopter well worth doing, I had a free morning on a work trip and found one that did an excellent Sunrise trip. Picked up in a limo at 6.30am, flew to the Canyon, landed and walked around for 20mins, sparking wine breakfast and then flew back. Was back at my hotel by 10.30 and in our conference by mid-day!

I used Sundance who were very professional, helipad very close to the strip

4 years ago stayed in New York New York for 20th wedding anniversary and renewed vows in the flamingo.
2 years ago stayed in the Hilton elara for a friend's wedding in the little white chapel with Elvis. Excellent fun.
Last year was my 50th, stayed in the Bellagio which was awesome.
This year is my 25th wedding anniversary and this thread has got me thinking, especially with all the tips on saving money as it was sooo extensive last year. Mmm..:)

I'm torn between the Flamingo and New York New York, which did you prefer? Stuff like best Casino, Best Pool etc KG has already mentioned to go for the upgraded rooms at the Flamingo which is what I'm considering, just wondering about NYNY!

Personal opinion but the Flamingo is in a better due to the location - I tend to stay there or the Linq.

You have the Linq walk which has some nice bars, the big wheel and a few shops - it is also in the middle of the strip - opposite Caesars palace which has a large shopping area.

New New is a nice hotel, but I find walking in Vegas gets old very quickly - you cant walk in a straight line from that end of the strip - its up and down escalators and its tedious after the first time, plus one side of the walk is pretty grotty and not much there.

Others may enjoy the walk!

Pool wise the NY NY pool is better than Flamingo - The flamingo has 2 pools - Go Pool - over 21 day club/party pool and the beach club which is more relaxing.

Cheers for that, I wasn’t sure about the Linq as I heard the pool is open to the public?

Linq pool is shit, if you are looking for a pool day dont stay there - it is tiny and gets in the shade for large parts of the day.

https://www.vegas.com/attractions/on-the-strip/linq/

This is between the Linq and Flamingo -

You can pay to get in quite a few of the other hotels pools if they have day clubs.

Done it all ourselves....

Thinking about Red Rock canyon.

The other question I have is around transfers from the airport....

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not sure if got a reply already!

Red Rock Canyon is just a must imo.......its absolutely stunning and I got the annual pass and made multiple visits earlier in the year.......if you want a car hire upgrade trick pm me.

Just get an Uber from the airport as will be like $10-15 depending on which hotel you stay at.

I'm also going out to Vegas for the first time in May for our Wedding anniversary, kids staying at home with the in-laws!
Not sure where we're staying yet, looking at a few (Flamingo, MGM - that kind of price range) for 4 nights. Also looking to do a day tour to the Canyon, so all of this advice you guys are giving is great!

Flamingo as its much better location. Stayed there a couple of times and for the price you pay its actually very good, think its been done up as well since last I stayed there.

I'm there in April

Got a couple of midweek nights in New York New York for peanuts - £50 per night per room + resort fee of about £35 pn pr
then a couple of nights in Tuscany Suites for even less

Tbh bud £50 a night for New York New York is high imo!! Its too far away from most things and you will end up spending a load on taxis or Ubers! Linq or Flamingo are better cheaper options imo or if can get a deal on The Venetian Id stay there!

Flamingo easily due to the location!

I’m a bit of a Vegas buff having had close on 50 trips to Sin City over the past few years.

Some great tips already (bar the Outback Steak IMO!).

Some essentials:-

Uber not cab. All hotels have Uber pick up and drop off points. It’s also quick and easy to find at the airport. It’s getting on for half the cost of a cab with the guarantee you won’t be ripped off. All Ubers have had decent clean cars with helpful professional drivers.

Whatever hotel you are staying at, join the rewards program. Mlife at MGM group for example. Even if you don’t intend to gamble, there will be some freebies for signing up and Mlife (maybe others too) actually reward you now for your non gaming spend.

Charge everything to your room. Drinks, show tickets, spa treatments and meals. If you don’t charge it to your room, it can’t possibly be comped and you won’t earn any rewards for that spend either.

An hour before you check out, go to the players desk with the casino card. Say I’m checking out today and what can you cover of my spend. You may be very pleasantly surprised with the response!

Mlife works in all hotels in the group, so you can earn points on play and charge food/drinks etc from partner hotels.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help on table games you don’t know. Typically the dealers are very helpful.

Free drinks whilst you are playing. Can be 1c slots as well as big table games. The waitress will expect $1 a drink (that’s not changed for 25 years!) but typically $5 between 2 of you will be very appreciated and will likely ensure a new drink has arrived before the current one is half done!

Get a host! If you are gambling heavy be sure to ask at the players desk to speak to a host. They can comp more than the players desk and will become your point of contact for future trips.

Vegas is expensive but that’s partly becuase so many are not paying. A long while ago my host told me that a huge player stopped coming. When she phoned him he said he now plays at Ceasers as they comp his steak dinner. My host said all your dinners are comped. His reply was yeah but the Steak at Ceasers is $60 and at the Mirage it’s only $50 so they look after me better!

That night the price of steak went up at every MGM property. Knowing how some think, I actually beleive this story!

Over the past 25 years I’ve seen a lot of changes in Vegas. Back then, it was get you in the casino at any cost, often with free drinks, and unrealistily cheap food and shows. Now the drinking, food and shows are just as much a money spiner for the casinos. Not my scene, but the night club, DJ scene is now huge (and expensive) in Vegas. The days of a hot dog and a beer gor $1 are long gone. Expect to pay $10 or more for a beer. Cocktails even higher. A 3 course steak dinner for 2 at a big hotel will be $150 for 2, without drinks and much more if you go for one of the crazy steaks.

If you’re into steak then IMO there is only one choice. The Steak House at CIrcus Circus. Crap hotel but the steak house is timeless and excellent value. They looked at moving from Circus Circus but they can’t! They use an open Charcoal grill and current policies prevent new restaurants using one. You will come out a bit smokey but you will have a great meal.

As with the other replies, the flamingo is a better location although I didn't mind the walking. Different to others, I didn't think much of the pool in ny ny, I would say the flamingo is better pool wise but I have haven't stayed there or swam there. I like the pools in the Bellagio and Elara.

If you do stay in the ny ny, the duelling pianos bar and the Italian steak house are excellent.
