The Oscar's is so over hyped and over analysed these days, too many arguments about who is better than who and its mostly pretty pointless. All it seems to do is keep that Scottish bloke on 5Live in a job.

If you see a film and you like it that's all that matters but when something like La La land starts winning Oscars there is something seriously wrong with the system. I won't be losing any sleep waiting up for it.

Reckon Roma may suffer from anti-Netflixism. Hollywood maybe not ready for that level of change just yet.

Oh and Mary Queen of Scots HAS to be a shoo-in for the Hairstyling award. But only that. Shame they've decided to sideline Saoirse Ronan this season for no good reason at all other than she's winning WAY too many nominations WAY too soon. Best actress of her generation by a very long country mile.

Great summary acker. For me Rami Malek is head and shoulders best actor although Bradley Coo[er can feel unfortunate to come up against him this year as he was excellent in a star is born as was Lady Gaga who should win best actress but of course we know Glenn Close will. Best film, again a Star is Born, Ready Player One a personal winner, Bohemian Rhapsody

The hatred of La La Land truely baffles me but it is pure hatred now. I loved it when it came out, went mad for it, saw it 3 times in a week brought the soundtrack, it was lauded for several weeks but then something happened and I do not know of a single person in the last 2 years who has said anything other than it is utter shite. It was on tv last night and I had it on, I don't have the same love for it anymore, the avalanche of bile against it has clouded my opinion, so many people can't be wrong, maybe it is shite after all. Maybe I lost myjudgement for a week ? I don't think it is but maybe it is just me. Same with other films that I adored and are after doing well slaughtered like the wonderful, Shape of Water and many others down the years

Behave Uncle. Few hated La La Land. Why would they even care? Ditto the massively over hyped sensitive fish monster thing. Each to their own eh?

I would say la la land is the most hated film in movie history now. Knocked Titanic into a cocked hat. It baffles me but what do I know ?

Not seen alll the films nominated yet, but feels like a weak year to me. I enjoyed most of the ones I have seen, Roma is good but nothing that hasn’t been done before. I hated Cold War due to the self indulgent characters. Bohemian Rhapsody enjoyable but wouldn’t say it is Oscar material. Appears a bit pc this year after recent controversy, Black panther -really? For me Stan and Ollie was the stand out film, no nominations.
Last year had 4 billboards, and call me by your name- a beautiful piece of film making for little credit. Apparently the remake of splash was Oscar worthy.

You know as much as the rest of us mate, and care about the things you champion. Same as many of us do. Life would be pretty damn dull otherwise eh Uncle? Keep on keeping on!

I don't hate it Uncle, neither would I throw an avalanche of bile at it either, I was using that as an example of how meaningless an Oscar can be. I didn't even see the whole film, I gave it ten minutes, then another time Mrs V and I gave it another 10 minutes so we got 20 minutes in to the film. I didn't get it, we didn't get it and I had no empathy or understanding of the characters. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it at the cinema that's for sure as it would have been an expensive 20 minutes at Cineworld.

My point Uncle, is that if X or Y wins a Best Supporting Actor award does that make your trip in to work as enjoyable as three points on a Saturday or having England beat Wales in the Rugby ? whichever Oscar result occurs its fairly meaningless to everyone except the winner who might get a better deal for their next picture whereas 3 points can make you bounce all week.

I enjoyed La La land so you are not alone. Whether the film or acting deserved Oscar recognition is a different matter.

Isn't there a chance a Netflix film will be nominated, I'm sure I heard it somewhere

Roma is a netflix film. It has been nominated. Won a lot of awards over the award season. Netflix have been spending big to get the win. But have they done enough to overcome the anti-streaming snobbery in Hollywood and get the win?

Also, the Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a netflix film and has a couple of nominations (original screenplay, song), but Roma is the big one.

Spike Lee will win big due to that thing the Oscar bods do where they dish out a load of awards to someone that doesn't have any yet but really should.
