although I dont live in Brighton I hope those that do use their vote sensibly and vote for a proper party not the existing one in power.
Urban planners will only act on the instructions given to them. If the subjective remit does not include maintaining car journey times, and to instead attempt to push drivers onto buses, they’ll come up with anti car schemes.

If you decide to drive in downtown Oslo, be forewarned: You won’t be able to park on the street. By the beginning of this year, the city finished removing more than 700 parking spots–replacing them with bike lanes, plants, tiny parks, and benches–as a major step toward a vision of a car-free city center.
Without those parking spots, and with cars banned completely on some streets, few people are driving in the area. “There are basically no cars,” says Axel Bentsen, CEO of Urban Sharing, the company that runs Oslo City Bike, the local bike-share system. The city’s changes are designed, in part, to help improve air quality and fight climate change, but the difference in the quality of life is more immediate. “The city feels different faster than you can feel the difference in [cleaner air],” he says. “You can see that you’re actually reclaiming the space and can use it for other purposes than parking cars.”

My preferred method to get into Brighton is to use the Roedean park and ride and get the regular bus to Churchill Square that is included in the P&R price.

That doesn't make any sense. The Labour Party, which is in power (but not with a majority), has been the party most opposed to the Valley Gardens scheme. It was pushed through by the Tories and the Greens and was only adopted by Labour after scaling down the plans.
If you do want to object to the scheme then the party that's in power is exactly who you should be voting for.
Although as he's not from Brighton, can't vote in Brighton and travels to Brighton by bus, it would seem who voted for who isn't the only aspect of his post that doesn't make sense.
