I assume you've never heard of Tony's Cronies then ? Both main parties ( and to a lesser extent but only because they rarely hold power the Lib Dems *spit* ) do it.

Disgusting and why the House of Lords should be an elected chamber but split into two groups. One purely political so you'd get to vote for a purely political party candidate. The other group would be a list of experts put forward by all parties who they think could be useful ( Sir Robert Winston for example although he is a Labour member ) and that vote would be done countrywide and on a purely a PR basis. Top 'X' get a peerage for say 10 years.

Safe to assume she'll be voting for May's deal then?

Private Eye covered this in its Christmas issue. May used to complain about Cameron dishing out honours and, initially at least, she was sparing in her use of them. As her power has ebbed away however; it's one of the few trinkets she has left and she's started dishing them out like pizza leaflets.

EDIT: Just read the article and see she isn't a sitting MP so there's no immediate vote for May to grab. Perhaps she just really like her.

More cronyism from Theresa May...

to be fair, PM giving out life peerages to favoured ex-MP is the entire purpose of them. whether someone with such a short run as MP is worthy is real question.

agree with suggestion of partial elected Lords, but not direct. this would create conflict over which house has precedence. should be indirectly elected via county council elections, giving them some more importance.

She was my MP in Oxford and was pro remain, but went to ground after the Brexit vote. She lost a 12k majority to Layla Moran (Lib Dem), he have voice at Westminster once again.

If she was still an MP, she would have a voted for May deal, anything to climb the ladder.
