Just talking about it over a Corona, clearly from a different time, but huge ratings back in the day when it followed the Queens Speech.
BBC showed it from 1948 to 1979, when it defected to ITV until it closed in 1982.
Obviously the performing animals debate was a huge issue but in the grand scheme of things was it really that cruel?

I always watched in the hope the girl would fall during the trapeze act and miss the safety net.

Blimey, even as a kid I thought it was shite.

Now, The Black and White Minstrel Show was quality.

To be honest, as kids we had to watch it every year, cos my Grandad loved it.
