Right here, right now
Had an attack of this last week. Bloody painful. Could barely walk for a couple of days.

Anybody else got it?

What do you take for it?

Allopurinol and colchicine as prescribed medicines

Apple cider vinegar in the kitchen cupboard. Dilute a tablespoon into a large glass of water and neck it. It tastes horrific but supposed to work.

Drink lots of water daily.

I'm attack free for a few months now. I feel for you.

The worst pain anyone can imagine.

I've been on Allopurinol 300mg/day for around two years now, and it controls uric acid and the gout that came with it very well.

I'm right on the border line for gout, so very lucky and only ever had 2 attacks in the last 5 years. As long as I'm sensible in what I eat and avoid too many things with purines in them I'm OK. Doc proscribed me Indomethacin if it ever does flare up. It's an old school anti-inflammatory, sorts me out straight away

Bloody painful. Lots of water and pain killers to get rid of it. To prevent it cut back on processed meat, especially bacon, but most importantly alcohol.

Had Allopurinol for 18 months but it caused neuropathy in both feet meaning I can barely feel my toes any more. Now on Colchicine and Febuxostat which is supposed (so they tell me) to be more effective and with fewer side effects than Allopurinol. Cherry juice/extract definitely helps but the biggest thing is to avoid the foods that are high in purinols like mushrooms, pork, shellfish, asparagus etc, etc. While I am not suggesting that alcohol is good for gout it is by no means the sole cause as it's reputation would suggest!

Steer well away from yeast based products and anything with MSG and preservatives in it, for example: chinese food, bovril, shellfish, offal, mushrooms (I kid you not), beer!

As far as Ive been led to believe, different things trigger gout in different people and it will take some time to narrow it down for you. For me its definitely red meat and preservatives. Alcohol is not good as it dehydrates you so drink plenty of water. Used to suffer way too much and Allupurinol made me come out in a rash so rely on eating the right things now. As soon as you feel it starting, start the anti inflammitories. Youll probably need some omeprazole as well so that they dont hurt your stomach.

Bloody evil pain. On the plus side it rarely lasts more than 10 days after which time it'll vanish so completely that your mind will play tricks and wonder what all the fuss was about.

First line of defense: force fluids, and NSAID's like ibuprofen and naproxen.
(The latter are not good for the kidneys, though.)

Allopurinol and colchicine can both beat it right back, but the latter in particular also has a nasty suite of potential side effects.

I'm a severe sufferer of chronic acute gout. It's something I would only wish on a Palace fan :D

I take febuxostat at 80mg per day. Allipurinal doesn't work for me (I was on 600 mg per day of that sh1t!

You need to note down everything you are consuming in both food and drink to hopefully gauge what your triggers are. Mussels, scallops and many other seafood are a no no for many sufferers. As far as drink goes then port is another thing that is high in purine and therefore a possible trigger.

Most things that can trigger an attack are generally ok if consumed in low to moderate quantities. Alcohol doesn't seen to affect me but eating one mussel will render me laid up for weeks!

I have seen top specialists and have learned to live with this crippling condition and now know when an attack is imminent thanks to taking onboard what they have told me to do and the main things to avoid.

This picture was of my right knee during a chronic attack.
