We have to stay vigilant here as they are found everywhere.
I have have made a few bob this year repairing the damage that they cause.

If you read the article, the average height is 2.4m.
The only reference to pyramids is where the researcher says that if you combine all the soil in all the mounds it's about the same volume as 4,000 great pyramids. Which is not the same as "They’ve grown as tall as the great Egyptian pyramids".
Nonetheless, termites are impressive little buggers.

Oh good forests have been clear to reveal massive termite mounds, why not turn it into a tourist attraction while you're at it and destroy some more natural habitat

You either love them, or hate them.
Serious issue here as you know, can do serious damage to homes meaning regular treatment of timber frames, and can so seriously damage trees that branches fall and take out houses/cars etc.
