RIP

The only real knowledge of the man I have is when my parents used to jest "Who do you think you are, Charles bloody Aznavour?" and crack up laughing when I used to spend 2 hours getting ready and gelling my hair for the youth club...

PS - that was 1983, not last week, before you all start with funnies... :annoyed:

I take it he was 'one for the ladies' like Julio Iglesias?

For a long time, the only thing I knew about him was the bloody awful 'She'. But I've listened to a bit more of his stuff since then and he was far more interesting than that song suggested and wrote some excellent songs. Still, 94 is a pretty good innings and was still performing till the end - way to go, Charles.

I think she is a very nice song, but prefered the Elvis Costello version (sorry Charles)

My wife was with a group in Paris years ago and the head honcho had booked a suite. Charles Aznavour was staying in the room the previous night and was supposed to check out at midday. The hotel were reluctant to evict a national treasure and he knew it. He was still there at 2 pm so each member of the group called the suite every 10 mins asking for the guy who should have been in the room by now after an hour or so he vacated the room.

Jeff Lynne did a decent version of She too

RIP Charles

Are you sure you are not thinking of Charles Trenet? It is indeed a fabulous song, but I have never heard Aznavour singing it.

You may be right. I can only find a recording from 2013 of Aznavour singing it and it's not the one I am thinking of. However I can't find the Youtube recording I was thinking of anyway, it could be Trenet or Aznavour. It's one of my favourite songs.

Charles Trenet also wrote it. Julio Iglesias does a good version which is played out at the end of the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with Gary Oldman

I was going to post the same thing - having checked google Aznavour did sing it, but Charles Trenet wrote it and had the definitive (wonderful) version.

But Aznavour was a considerable talent as well.... RIP.
