Having a pub debate and people are arguing about which side of the tin foil to have up, so here we go...

Do you go with shiny side up? Or non shiny side up?

The fact that one side is shiny is to do with the manufacturing process, rather than how you're supposed to use it.

the dull side is supposed to be more 'non-stick' - so, better use this side for wrapping, or when baking/grilling something on top of it...now where's my pinny...?

It makes no difference.

Is the correct answer.

Tin foil is too thin to pass through the packaging machine.
Therefore it has to go as 2 sheets, the shiny side is from the packaging rollers, on the 'outside'.

I have thought that the foil its so thin that it probably makes very little difference, something that takes an hour to cook will take 59 minutes with shiny side down possibly. So no meaningful difference. The link I added seems to reflect that. No pun intended.

Shiny side to keep the heat in, dull side to keep the heat out. So cooking should be shiny side down.

you might want to think on that a bit... give you a clue, in the oven you dont use light for heat.
